I was contracted to create a series of posters for the 2014 season productions of Clybourne Park, Gruesome Playground Injuries, and Three Days of Rain. The designs needed to be cohesive to reflect the season’s continuous theme of time travel, and passing through time, while still illustrating each play’s signature story. Clybourne Park is a satire focusing on race and real estate in a fictional Chicago neighborhood. Gruesome Playground Injuries depicts the lives of Kayleen and Doug, whose lives intersect bizarrely over the course of 30 years. Three Days of Rain by Richard Greenberg depicts how one generation can fundamentally misunderstand another. I decided to take two completely different approaches to this, the second direction relies on photographs, fonts, and colors to evoke each play’s mood.
