Couture Spring 2016

Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition

A glamorous collection which fits quite neatly into the true meaning of couture, this one is filled with intricate lace, long silky gowns and detailed beading. It truly epitomizes that 1920’s aura of pure luxury with details of excess like a long embroidered coat and fringe made of tiny gold beads. A dark, mysterious undertone runs through the entire collection, however, lending it something more than simply luxurious opulence.
Armani Prive

This collection is filled to the brim with fun, bubbly silhouettes for an effect that is quite jellyfish-like. Some garments are textured quite realistically to resemble fish fins and scales. Every surface appears to shine and reflect light, providing the effect that the models appear to be almost glowing from within. Frilly ruffles and ankle socks create a girlish feel.
Elie Saab

A celebration of femininity and romanticism, this collection masterfully blends English and Indian influences to create truly beautiful pieces. Details such as a hip bag and chain fringe combat boots lend a bohemian air. Somehow the gowns remain light and floaty despite the intricacy and wonderful opulence of the beading and floral appliques.
Maison Margiela

A sense of youthful freedom to explore new combinations and possibilities is an obvious theme in this collection. Disjointed and surrealistic, it has the power to retain wearability while simultaneously presenting previously unseen silhouettes. This collection celebrates the process of design with a humorous approach.
 Schiaparelli

A lighthearted collection with unique culinary-related prints takes us into the vegetable garden, invoking a playful attitude. Simple silhouettes are paired with quirky prints, including one of silverware and many of vintage renditions of various fruits and vegetables. There is a certain sense of nostalgia for simple days spent in the garden, digging into the earth for treasures to be savored.
Ulyana Sergeenko

Seductive and romantic at once, this collection features silhouettes with exaggerated volume and layers paired with hard, coastal influences represented with thick, substantial boots, newsboy caps, and fishy details. Shades of pastel are mixed with flashes of bolder color, with black being a consistent theme throughout. This collection references an ‘80s Russia, mixing retro with traditional.
Valentino

This collection takes us into a world of an ancient Venetian fairy tale, in which nymphs walk barefoot and sport gilded snake crowns on their heads. The garments appear very heavy and almost regal, with deep emeralds and reds in velvet, silk, and lace. Exotic details paired with gold embroidery and weighty gold body chains make this a dynamic collection with a definite power to spark the imagination.
Yiqing Ying

This collection plays with the theme of elements in its color use, ranging from earthy browns and reds to steely gray and a misty blue. The garments hang from the models’ bodies in a very natural way, as if they are raw elements from the earth which have been artfully draped over the figures. Many BDSM references are on display via intricately knotted rope and intertwining straps, giving the collection a raw allure.
