Krkolomné tričká, or crooked T-shirts, is a project that started unexpectedly back in summer 2015. Asked to create some souvenirs for foreigners, I chose to trick the stereotypical depiction of what is Slovakian, and focused on the colours of the flag solely.
Through the use of blue and red paint in combination with white fabric, I used the colours to symbolise the country a little indirectly, with a twist. I decided to create a graphic patter from free-hand drawn lines, each a little different, unique, with its own trace. Seemingly crooked, yet each one of them precisely parallel. To show the craftsman ability of the Slovakian hearts, that is often thought of as too oldschool. Often neglected. Forgotten.
Don't you think we can add a breath of fresh air to our own traditions to make them more accessible for the contemporary society?
