The idea of this project was to create a film festival poster and ticket set using typography as a basis. Parameters forced us to do the title type by hand. Cutout, clay molding, frosting lettering - whatever you had to do to create it. During the process of my project, I used a vector cutter to remove the lettering on my poster, my DSLR to take the photo, and ripped the paper by hand to create the desired effect.

My film fest project began as a simple idea - or three. I started off with word listing, which brought me to my three starting concepts: missing people, dreams, and the underground. From there, sketches of each concept came forth. Many pages and re-dos later, the ideas were narrowed down to just one. My final concept was for a a festival called Gone Film Festival.

Featuring many films centered around missing people, the four day festival was created to mimic the feeling of emptiness. The negative space filled by the wording centered on the ripped poster of a missing person does just that. Since many missing people sadly go unfound, posters are eventually wrecked and frayed with forgotten worry over the years - this is what I wanted to convey.
Concept #1: Dreams
Concept #2: Missing people/kidnapped
Concept #3: Underground/nightlife
Third draft sketches of final concept.
Early poster concept. Black with white cutout letters.
Final poster. The white paper conveys the emotion I wanted much better.
Tickets to go with the poster. How else are you gonna get in?
Website I designed to go with the concept.
Overall, this project was one of my favorites that I've done. Since I'm a huge fan of film, relating my work to my hobby is a surefire way to end up with a satisfying final product.
