Warhammer 40 000 universe has always been a great inspiration for me when it comes to illustrations and art in general. I've started many projects on the subject but never really managed to complete one until now and I have to say I really enjoyed creating this one. 

 

I was aiming for a "book cover" type of look with a hint of handpainted illustration feel. This was achieved in compositing the final image in photoshop with some hand made editing on top of the raw rendered layers. 

Now that I have a good base for these Black Templars I probably end up doing multiple scenes with them, this being first of a series. 

 

I tried to keep the armor design true to the Space Marine style, with bulky shoulder armors and towering massive overall look. The combination of softer materials like leather and fabric together with ceramite and steel adds a nice contrast to these impressive looking figures.
