This project was conceptualised and executed over two years with the help of several volunteers. 

The history, life-cycles, local uses, microhabitats, biochemical properties, phenology and community structure of trees provide an invaluable window into any place.

They hold stories of people, of animals, of environmental change... and so much more.

 

My intention was to encourage visitors to explore and immerse themselves in the space, using the trees as their guides. 

 

The field guide comprises of:

a map - for the user to navigate themselves using trees as landmarks

a handbook - which corresponds to the map where every tree (plotted, numbered and labled) is very briefly introduces, using information and illustration, for both a scientific and non scientific audience.

an id card - of the birds that are commonly found in the region, often associated with these trees

 

41 species over an area of 5 acres in Wandoor, on the South Andaman island have been covered.
