Ryan Ross Smith & Animated Notation

I am interested in creating compositions of high rhythmic complexity and/or extended/endless duration through the use of unique Animated Notations.  Below are just a few examples of the work I have done.  For more information, please visit www.animatednotation.com or www.ryanrosssmith.com.  Thanks!
Study no. 8 [15 Percussionists] was composed for 15 percussionists playing found metals, woods, and pitched metals.  The score is generated in real-time.  This particular performance took place at Mills College, March 8th, 2012.

Each player follows one large circle.  When the 'metronome' arm hits the right side small circle, the performer plays with his or her right hand.  When it hits the left side small circle, the performer plays with his or her left hand.  As the piece progresses the tempo for each player becomes more and more out of synch with the rest of the ensemble, resulting in not only an extreme rhythmic complexity, but occasional synchronicities.

Study no. 8 [15 Percussionists] is an example of how Animated Notation can produce extreme rhythmic complexity with an economy of means.
