TIMELAND videogame

Timeland is a video game that reflects one of the paradoxes of modernity: the use of time and the danger of letting it control our lives; to the point of building everything around hours, minutes and seconds and leaving aside the different aspects of our society that characterize us as human beings.
 
Ben is the protagonist of Timeland and he is the one who must undertake a trip to Omega and Phi to recover the time that is being stolen from his people, Cronos. For this he must obtain different resources and face the guardians, watchmakers and sentries of time in the worlds that he crosses, always keeping in mind the objective of destroying each of the hours of the Great Clock. Once Benito manages to alter these hours, he will be able to regain the balance of time and together with it, the life and youth that have been stolen from its people.



Timeland es un videojuego que refleja una de las paradojas de la modernidad: el uso del tiempo y el peligro de dejar que éste controle nuestras vidas; al punto de construir todo alrededor horas, minutos y segundos y de dejar de lado los distintos aspectos de nuestra sociedad que nos caracterizan como seres humanos.

Benito es el protagonista de Timeland y es quien debe emprender un viaje a Omega y a Phi para recuperar el tiempo que le está siendo robado a su pueblo, Cronos. Para esto debe conseguir distintos recursos y enfrentarse a los guardianes, relojeros y centinelas del tiempo en los mundos que atraviesa, teniendo siempre en cuenta el objetivo de ir destruyendo cada una de las horas del Gran Reloj.  Una vez Benito logre alterar estas horas, podrá recuperar el equilibrio del tiempo y junto con éste, la vida y la juventud que le han sido robadas a su gente.

Synopsis
Before the theft of time, Timeland was one world, everyone had to face the natural tasks of being born, growing up, aging and eventually dying forever. But all this changed when a group of watchmaking experts decided to take over the time of others to prolong its existence. For this they altered the time control mechanisms and locked the hours in the Great Clock that divided the world between Cronos, Omega and Phi.
In Cronos, people are slaves of time and must work to prolong their lives, since time there passes faster than normal. For this reason, anguish is common among people, there are no longer memories, dreams or imagination. The space goes back in times and every time everything looks older and likewise people age and die more quickly.
Omega is a stolen utopia, where the time that is taken from the inhabitants of Cronos is transferred to those who live there, in a distorted world where time passes slowly, so much that it seems to go backwards. In Omega people age very slowly and there is no concern about the depletion of time, as time abounds there, although guarded by time keepers.
Phi is a continuous space in Omega where watchmakers and sentries of the hours guard the Great Clock, a great machine raised in the sky composed of labyrinths and mechanical elements that work at different rates to steal and store the time of Cronos.
Ben, a 20-year-old young man belonging to Cronos, will undertake an adventure between these worlds, facing his adversaries, managing his life time and making use of different resources in the different trips until destroying the Great Clock and achieving the balance of time in Timeland.

Timeland es una historia construida por los estudiantes del curso Estudio 2: Industrias Creativas, de la Maestría en Diseño de la Universidad de Los Andes, quienes además elaboraron y diseñaron cada detalle de la narrativa, la dirección de arte, la interacción, visualización y mecánicas de éste videojuego. Con el apoyo del Laboratorio COLIVRI del Departamento de Ingeniería de Sistemas se desarrolló un demo en Unity de Timeland que se encuentra disponible para computadores y en el cual las personas pueden vivir una pequeña muestra de esta aventura.
