Issue #1 “The Pilot” - Selected Images: the walls of Phoenix
This graphic novel is more of an “illustrated story” than a comic book ― heavy on the “novel” part of the term “graphic novel”. I’m illustrating the story to be viewed in portrait orientation on a smartphone or pad. I have a plan for the printed version, but for present purposes the panel design is simple. Each panel will be viewed one at a time in sequence, moving from one to the next with a horizontal swipe of the screen. Often the pace of each swipe is designed to be rapid, with small shifts in movement from panel to panel, creating a slightly animated effect, like a “flip book”.
Note: I've spliced in excerpts from a first draft of the script to give a flavor of the story. The text doesn't necessarily correspond to the following images. More clips are included in other posts as well.
