ENTER THE VOID
Enter the Void, a Gaspar Noé film, follows the night of Oscar, a heavy drug user, whose sister is a stripper in the nasty underside of Tokyo. Oscar constantly suffers from flashbacks to his childhood when trauma upends the siblings, and his drug-fed hallucinations alter Tokyo's already-disconcerting nights into something wild and surreal. After being shot by the police in a club (The Void) he can float above the whole city and look down on everything - even life at a moleculer level. Oscar comes to realize that the spectrum's colors can be beautiful; it's people's colorless lives that can be ugly.

CONCEPT
When approaching this project I had the intent to highlight the unusual, psychedelic nature of the film. Oscar floats through the city as if he were in a surreal world, and everything merges together into one. With one of the final scenes being him smoking DMT while staring at a flickering neon sign outside his window, I figured it would be appropriate to bring this in as a key element before he gets shot and enters his dream-like state.

PROCESS
In an attempt to achieve a psychedelic effect with a vectorized image of the 'Enter" sign, I printed it out in Black and white, and scanned it back in 20 different times while moving the printout. This resulted in not only the form of the signs being morphed and distorted, but the colors splitting into a bright rainbow-like pattern very fitting to the general theme of drug use and hallucinations in the movie.
