Jewel and Esk College Edinburgh Club Building

Architecture
Jewel and Esk CollegeService Industries 'Club' Building
The redevelopment of Jewel & Esk College's two campuses was completed in December 2008.

The Edinburgh Campus design consisted of two main components; the creation of a new entrance building to promote the college’s Service Industries faculty and the largest section of the design, the refurbishment of the existing Leith Nautical College buildings.

The Nautical College was originally designed and constructed by J&FJohnstone and Partners between 1975 and 1978. The College closed in 1987 and was later taken over by the Client.

The refurbishment was split into four areas; the Link Block, the Teaching Block, the Music Block and the Student Halls. The Link Block has been extensively remodelled to create a new reception on ground floor and Learning ResourceCentre (LRC) on first floor. A connecting route leads from the Club Building through the reception to a new Auditorium which is part of the Music Block.

The Club Building contains a new SPA facility, student canteen, hair and beauty salons, training kitchens and penthouse restaurant. All spaces are interconnected via a full height atrium space and feature staircase.
