From a time before the written word, carpets have been woven. From hand to hand, from father to son, and from mother to daughter, the traditions of weaving have been carried through the millenia in an unbroken chain. The sheering of the sheep, spinning of wools, and the secrets of the dye-master are all crafts that are still in practice today. Even the most humble of hand-woven carpets are remarkable in their legacy. The pictographs below describe some of the techniques used to weave carpets.
