North Train Shed Roof
One of the principal objectives for key output 1 of the Thameslink redevelopment programme (TLP) was the increase in train capacity from an 8 to12 carcapacity. A 12 car train requires a platform length of in excess of 200 metresand the Transport & Works Order (2006) made provision to extend the train shedcanopy.

The north train shed roof has a span of approximately 25 metres that wasdesigned for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) off site in 19 sections. With the constraintsof an operational railway below the design of the roof was developed tominimise the amount of fixings required to the underside of the roof and toeliminate the need for a crash deck below.
