On April 4, CORE (Conserving Our Ranger Environment) will be joining the Baptist Student Union and NWOSU Art Society on a trip to Greensburg, KS in effort to help with some rebuilding projects.
After and EF5 tornado leveled Greensburg, Kansas May 4, 2007 the town was forced to rebuils their town from scratch. When thinking about ways to do this the town decided to incorporate green principles to the majority of the building processes.
The "Greening of Greensburg" endorsed by Kansas Governor, Kathleen Sebelius and city leaders, will be accomplished form a shain of eco-friendly homes to Americas first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) critical acces hospital as well as making an effort as a community to commit to more environmentally friendly daily practice.
Jason Hillman, Nothwesterns director of Student Life and Counseling, has been putting groups together. Northwestern students are calling our part of the effort Rangers helping Rangers Greensburg High Schools mascot.
There will be seven CORE members joining the BSU and NWOSU Art Society groups. The volunteers will be going to help with several projects throughout the town on this day.
Janet Valencia is CORE's sponsor and will be traveling to Greensburg with the groups. "They (the students) are excited about the opportunity to go and make a difference."
