This image was one of my favorites to shoot. I'm grateful that the local bike shop was willing to give me their old, broken parts, because they helped a lot with this image!
Like with all of my other shoots, I prepared well in advance for this one. I wanted to find some great props for the wine; and I think I succeeded. I tried a variety of compositions, but this was my favorite. I especially like the name repetition, and the lighting.
This was the original image that I shot for these shoes. While I like how you can see all of the details of the shoe's shape, and how you can see the brand's name clearly, I thought they needed a little something more...... (look below)
I took this image with a rented speed light kit, after deciding that adding some chains to the scene would go well with the "Rampage" brand. Although my previous image was good enough according to my teacher, I took the initiative to re-shoot them, because I couldn't be satisfied until I created the vision in my head. After seeing this image, he decided I was right; the chains added a lot.
Sometimes it's good to have a simpler composition. I came up with many ideas for this shoot, but this simple one was my favorite. I especially like the diagonal, and how the ukulele and the scarf interact. I thought the repeated warm tones in the wood gave the image a cozy feel, as well.
I always have a vision for an image way before I start shooting. I sketch a lot of thumbnails, think over the shoot until I'm satisfied with my vision, and always try to remain flexible during the shoot if I think something else will work better. Shooting the reflective surface of this bottle taught me a lot.
