The Jewish holiday/Mexican wrestling mash-up no one asked for
Watch it before you judge, okay? Around two years ago, I helped midwife a partnership between a San Francisco comedy company and a 100-year-old Jewish Community organization. It resulted in a live comedy show themed around the Jewish Holiday of Purim (the biblical book of Esther for the asemitics) and has been a huge hit two years running.
This year, I put together a rough outline and a few choice jokes for LUCHA LIBRE PURIM, slapped up some character and logo designs, and handed the whole schmeal off to The Bardi Twins, a husband-and-wife comedy-writing team, one of whom is also a crazily talented digital animator/AfterEffects whiz. We also pressed talented voiceover man Jon Wolanske into service and there you have it.
Together, we crafted what I like to think was the hit of this year's show. Especially if you knew who Debbie Friedman was.
