The "Sea Angel" is an evolved form of the angler fish, specifically the linophryne bicornis.

 

In the future angler fish would have forward-facing orbitals and elongated fingers with which they can catch prey. Improved vision also means that they are able to investigate their surroundings. This one in particular has developed a curiosity and occasionally wonders if she should go to the upper depths of the ocean. However, instincts tell her that it is safer here in the deep sea, and that there may be monsters up there.

 

That said, it is very lonely down in the ocean depths. That is why she is very fond her light, and sees it as the only friend she's ever known.
