Southern Goods is a restaurant and bar located in the Houston Heights whose menu is a blend of traditional southern cuisine with modern interpretations. They came to us to design the visual communications for their new restaurant. From initial brand identity concepts to interior design consulting, Flywheel has been a part of the Southern Goods experience from the start.
A Flexible Brand Identity System

We wanted to bring Southern Goods’ ‘traditional meets modern’ sensibility into the branding. A timeless mark that's familiar, yet new, is at the heart of all our design work. We designed business cards, a menu system, and event templates for social media sharing.
A Restaurant Website for Any Device

We developed a responsive website built on our custom Wordpress installation that looks and functions seamlessly on any device. For patrons, the food & drink menus are easily navigable, a map and directions to the restaurant are a swipe away, and the current day’s hours of operation are dynamically displayed at the top of each page. For the staff, managing the menus is simple, allowing them more time to better serve their customers.
Tap Wall Management Application

The restaurant has a finely curated tap wall that needed a simple management system. We developed a responsive web application that allows the staff to manage the available beers on tap. Once an edit is made, that change is instantaneously pushed to the beer menu on a TV customers can see and onto the website's menu. The app also allows managers to print a branded, current beer menu. One management system, three outputs, all kinds of cool.

We took headshots of the Southern Goods team as well as some food and dining room photos to be used throughout the new website and for press releases.
Interior Design & Build Out Consulting

Our role extended beyond traditional graphic design. We consulted on the interior design buildout, which included sourcing for the tables and chairs, paint selection, and plastering an entire wall with hundreds of vintage book pages. On the building’s exterior, we hand-painted an 8-foot version of the logo on the front as well as the ‘SG’ monogram on the building’s sides.
