Growing up in the township I wasn't exposed to the true history of my people. The only past I knew of was that of Apartheid which was a system of oppression before 1994. Our grandparents only spoke about the Boers and how they hurt them some much that my generation only worried about that part alone.

What were we like before they came? What did we believe in and how did we show it? Those questions have been wondering around my mind for a very long time and when I asked my grandparents they too seem to have forgotten about our history before Apartheid. So I decided to make it my objective to learn more about the true past of my people. As I was researching I found that people have been trying so hard to forget what they know only to remember what they do not and this leads to them astray. We have forgotten our ancestral lineage.

My reason for this project is that I want to keep the essence of my past and of my ancestors by teaching the next generation what I had to teach myself for our elders have abandoned our traditions and ways of life. I believe that this will bring back the lost glory of my people and see ourself as great beings that we are. We should not wait to be told who we are but we should humble ourselves, kiss the ground with our knees and hear our ancestors speak, hear their call as they call us by our names.
