The gourds are represented in many paintings with religious symbols. They represent the resseurtion of Christ.

The colors also represent the meanings that important in Christianity. The red is the blood, white is purity and the gold is the divine. 

 

The flesh colored broken ones are represented as human beings. These broken gourds are scattered around the floor.
