Medical Practice in Thessaloniki (Greece), by MALVI

This medical practice hosts the offices of two doctors, an obstetric ultrasound specialist and a cardiologist specialising in children. The brief required a brand as well as a space that would create a friendly, uplifting and, at the same time, professional atmosphere, and would reflect the doctors’ distinct personalities and medical specialties.

In order to provide an appropriate solution, we treated the two separate medical specialties as two “brands” that become partially intertwined. We decided to accommodate these two entities under one encompassing graphical solution, that serves as a link but also as a separator between the two.

This approach of keeping the activities of the two doctors adequately linked to each other but also separate was followed through in the design of the actual space. Τaking into consideration both the patients’ and doctors’ behaviour and the way they use the space, we designed two distinct waiting areas, and we located each examination room and doctor’s office at either side of the floor plan, which contributed to minimising noise and adding a sense of separation.

Throughout the waiting areas the white walls provide an ideal backdrop for custom-made artwork by the renowned illustrator Stavros Damos, which was used as the central theme of the overall concept. Since the illustrations are already distinct enough in creating the appropriate atmosphere and story behind each of the doctors and their respective fields, we decided that the brand itself should come as a complementing gesture, rather than taking up significant space on its own.

In terms of developing the corporate identity of the practice, the fluid lines and free-form nature of the drawings were accompanied by simple and clear typography, contained in rectangular elements. This allowed us to create a dynamic identity for both practitioners, using specific graphical elements and colours as a means of differentiation between them.
