This is my suggestion of what the poster could look like when it is coloured-in. Note that the poster is designed in black and white and the intent is for the teacher or pupils to colour-in the poster.
The design for the poster with the blank spaces indicated where the teacher or pupil will paste the appropriate word.
The text for the English and/or Afrikaans version of the poster.
The text for the Sotho and/or Zulu version of the poster.
I received a request from Books for Homes to design an educational poster for a classroom set-up that can be printed at a low cost and that will be adaptable to various languages.
Books for Homes focus on the distribution of mostly free books and educational material to assist literacy programs for adults and children in rural areas in Southern Africa.
I designed the poster with an Afrocentric family with language options for English, Afrikaans, Sotho or Zulu. The poster is designed in black and white and easily printable on an ordinary laser or inkjet printer. It was designed in an A3 and constructable A2 size (originally printed on A3 pages and pasted together) with the language blocks on a standard A4 page size for ease of home printing.
The intent is for the teacher to cut out the words and paste them on the poster adjacent to the appropriate person in the family and then to colour it in as a beautiful poster to be used in the classroom.
The colour version above is my suggestion what the poster will look like once colour was added by the teacher.
