Award winning illustration
in the "Cultural Products Design" contest
held by the Greek Archaeological Receipts Fund.
The purpose of the contest was to create various graphic patterns, motifs or characters inspired by different eras
of the Greek civilization (Ancient Greece, Byzantium, etc.). The winning projects will be applied
in different types of products in order to become the new souvenirs to be sold by museum shops all over Greece.
The owl was inspired by the famous Athenian silver tetradrachm. The Athenian tetradrachm was stamped
with the head of Athena on the obverse, and on the reverse with the image of the owl of Athena,
the iconographic symbol of the Athenian polis, with a sprig of olive and a crescent for the moon.
In this version, the owl is revamped with the use of colors present in the Greek nature's palette and a mixed technique reminiscent of street art, graffiti and graphic design. The goal was to achieve a happy and colorful drawing
that could be used in many different applications and that could be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
