Sykes Cottages new Isle of Inspiration interactive experience showcases British landscapes through a beautifully-executed creative piece. Isle of Inspiration features six of the most picturesque and inspiring places across the UK - and the creatives they inspire - bringing the locations to life through words, music and drone footage.
From the South of England, Isle of Inspiration explores Eastbourne as Claude Debussy experienced it, Barbara Hepworth’s St. Ives, and Cheddar Gorge through the eyes of JRR Tolkien. Moving further North, the piece explores how the Yorkshire Moors inspired musician Kate Bush, the Yorkshire Dales’ impact on JMW Turner’s work and Wordsworth’s relationship with Ullswater and the Lake District.
Drone-shot footage flies the user across the moors and along the coastline, across white cliffs and through the gorge, to highlight the unique beauty of the locations and show why they’re so inspirational for creatives. Isle of Inspiration was created in a collaboration between Sykes Cottages and Epiphany Solutions, with commissioned drone footage supplied by Aerial Republic.
Tom Lowes, Head of Online Marketing at Sykes Cottages, said: “Isle of Inspiration started as a small project to find some of the most inspirational places in Britain, but soon grew as it became clear how important it was to do these locations and landscapes justice.
“The drone footage provides a unique viewpoint on some of the places in Britain that we’re all guilty of taking for granted, and helps you understand how our great isle has inspired works including Lord of the Rings, Le Mer and Daffodils.
“At Sykes Cottages, we’re passionate about encouraging holidaymakers to head to Britain's countryside for their breaks, and Isle of Inspiration is designed to help move that conversation from the topic of relaxation to inspiration. We want to show everything this country has to offer, and why it’s worth heading off the beaten track to take time to enjoy the simple, quiet pleasure of our landscapes.”
Colin Grist, Senior Designer at Epiphany Solutions, said: “Creating the Isle of Inspiration website required a design and interface that never stands in the way of the amazing footage we captured from across the British Isles.
“From the simple introductory screen overlaying footage from Cornwall, to the vertical selector of which story you want to view, the video footage is always at the forefront of our users’ experience on the site.”
