"It makes us wonder if we have to take charge of our own safety. We can't take it for granted that there are proper government safeguards or proper inspections of safety requirements in place to protect us. I think the Sewol is a classic case of corruption or collusion between government agencies, associations and corporations. And it's something that as a nation we must try to fix." On April 16th, 2014, the Sewol ferry, traveling from Incheon to Jeju, sank. Amongst the 476 passengers, only 172 were rescued, 295 were dead, and 9 are still missing. COG criticizes Korean government's inappropriate handling of the crisis, the failure of the Korean mainstream media informing the truths, and the captain and crew members who abandoned the ship leaving all their passengers inside. The work is 304 editions of embossment prints with 9 of them in the boxes made out of red pine, one of the common wood for coffins in Korea.
