Ian Fleming Postage Stamp Set
The Guernsey Post commissioned us to design a set of postage stamps to commemorate 50 years since the death of Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels. The project included research of the subject matter, image sourcing, generating concepts for a set of six postage stamps and a miniature sheet, design and set-up of artwork for all stamps, selvedge sheets, first day covers, presentation packs, cancellation mark and a miniature sheet. The miniature sheet was replicated in 24 carat gold as a limited edition collectors item.
The selection of photos represent different vocations or passions of Ian Fleming’s life which may have influenced the James Bond novels. I wanted to keep the designs simple and classic using black and white photos with a rich gold foil overlay for the royal cypher, place of origin, price point and Ian Fleming’s signature. The typographic style of the price point is designed to reflect the famous 007 logo used across the James Bond movie franchise. I chose to use a typewriter style font for the photo captions and title details across the set, and an illustration of Ian Fleming’s favourite typewriter as the cancellation stamp to suggest Fleming's huge success in writing.
