Women of Letters Plexifilm DVD Set

Opportunity: With the rise of graphic design awareness within contemporaty culture, there is a greater interest amongst the mass populace for education concerning the field at large. With the massive success of both Helvetica and Objectified, documentarian Gary Hustwit has revealed a growign demand for documentary films rooted in the arts, and specifically, graphic design. Plexifilm has filed the demand with a roster of offbeat films concerning a variety of artistic media including graphic design, music, and art.
 
The designer will create a series of DVDs for Plexifilm. A total of four DVD packages will be created, including liner notes and background information to be included in the inner panel/booklet for each individual DVD.
 
Chosen group of designers: Women of Letters – Paula Scher, Jessica Hische, Jessica Walsh, and Louise Fili
 
Solution: Each of these designers stresses the importance of setting technology aside and starting with the sketchbook to produce ideas. The designs of my DVDs reflects each designers' specific style and is made to look like their sketchbooks. The insides of the DVD cases show sketches of the designers' famous designs. The inserts are handwritten bookmarks with inspiring quotes for young designers written on them.
