This project was an experiment in producing vector art illustrations based on some of my favourite levels from the original Sonic the Hedgehog games, which I've always loved for their visual design as well as gameplay. This image is based on the famous Green Hill Zone from the original game, though my artwork took inspiration from the 8-bit Sega Game Gear Version of the level, as I've always loved the background in that version, thus the name; Game Gear Hill Zone.
An extra bit of fun in making this image was being able to take advantage of the checkerboard cliffs in order to hint at angles and 3D, which coincidentally is why they gave the levels that pattern in the original games.
