Initial concept sketches for the filter kettle
Quick Photoshop board to present ideas before development
3D CAD model was produced in Pro Engineer Wildfire. This was modelled to scale with materials and components considered during the development. The final idea would eventually be modelled by the engineers, but this was suffiecient to show the design as accurately as possible. This CAD model can then be used to create blue foam sketch models and an appearance model.
Always sketch developing ensuring that everything is worked out during the design process.
Foam model produced from the CAD data using CAM milling machines to check size against the original kettle and also the ergonomics of the design.
Final presentation boards for the final design were created from my 3D CAD model using Alias Image studio as a renderer. I used the IGES files to import into the program and ensuring the room and lighting was correct to make the stainless steel look real for the client. Final design was to be made from a polypropylene body with stainless steel wrap.
Exploded rendering of the kettle to explain to the client Morphy Richards the intended components- excluding electrical components.
Final visual model was created by using my CAD model and CNC milling machine- wonderful modelmakers then assembled and sprayed my model to make it look like the intended materials.. I created the graphics for the water level and the intended size of the Morphy Richards logo using Illustrator which I printed to make decals to then apply onto the final presentation model.
The final real kettle- that can be bought on Amazon, Argos, Robert Dyas and other appliance shops in the UK. A lot of my CAD data has been used to create the final kettle. As like most projects that I have done with Morphy Richards, they have a brilliant idea and get excited about materials, and then have second thoughts and decide to go a cheaper route, so this kettle is made from a polypropylene body with no stainless steel wrap and an added lid catch when my idea, it was designed to push a pop button to release the lid. The icons used in the final design are similar to the ones that I had designed on illustrator.

Very pleased. You can still buy it as of now! (Mar 2012) and as you noticed from my boards, the project first started in 2004- not bad going!
