A college workshop gave me the opportunity to work with Urdu Calligraphy. Here is my interpretation of this script simply as forms and motifs, than letters and words. I focused on the flow, intricacy, smoothness, curves and hand movements involved in the Urdu script. Taking these forms a step ahead, it was quite challenging to give it a touch of the Gothic style. I tried to portray my understanding of this script alone and not the language, through these visual representations.

'Kaal karay so aaj kar, aaj karay so ab,
Pal mein pralay hogayi, bahuri karogay kab'
'Bada hua to kya hua jaisay paid khajoor,
Panthi ko chhaya nahin, phal laagen ati door'
'Bura jo dekahn mein chala, bura na milya koi,
Jo mun khoja aapna to mujh say bura na koi'
'Chalti chakki dekh kay diya Kabira roay
Doi paatan kay beech mein sabut bacha na koay'
'Kabira Khada bazaar mein maange sub ki khair
Na kahu say dosti na kahu say bair'
I have taken the liberty to manipulate the script of these Doha's for the purpose of understanding and studying the script. There might be some omitions from the original Dohas, which should be excused. These Dohas are simply used as a reference to create these artworks.
