"Serein" is a collection inspired by someone I love who overcame a severe depression that lasted years. This Collection is full meaning and symbolism specific to this person, and is among my favorites for that reason. Depression is severe condition which leaves those who suffer from it feeling very dead inside and is extremely difficult and slow to recover from. 

That is why all of the figures sketched for Serein are a zombie-like shade of grey/blue, with their mascara running as if they had been crying earlier (but aren't now). The skeletal forms surrounding the figures represent the pain caused by depression, while the flowers (favorites of the person this collection is based on: Lupins, California & Red Poppies) represent coming back to life as a stronger and more beautiful individual. 

All figures were created using watercolor and micron pen, flats were sketched by hand.
