I was commissioned to design a logo for an artisanal baker starting a bread catering service for artisan breads.

Upon the interview, I could not miss noticing the passion and knowledge the client has for foods in general, and breads in particular.

The client wanted the logo to represnt the rusticness of the trade he was about to start and focus on the fact that breads are baked using traditional methods, in utmost care, and from scratch. He took the time to tell me that he starts his own yeast culture and feeds it to keep it alive to use in bread making. In addition to that, he wanted a remarkable simple yet momarble and unique logo to represent his brand.

Upon my research, I took the decorations of Eastern European traditional bread and salt loaves as primary inspiration. I started with drawing one, simplifying it, then adding my own elements that I found relevant to the brand and design.

 

After a few corrections, we agreed upon the final version of the logo: braided circumference with unique individual hand-drawn braids, wheat stalks representing the origin of flour and acting as a visual reminder of what the brand is about, lines and small circles that add a visual complexity and give an artisinal intricate feel

 

The typeface is chosen to be simple, memorable, and easily read when scaled. A simple san serif typeface is chosen for the name, contrasted with a delicate serif typeface stating the the trade of the brand.

 

The colors were selected according to the client's liking to be neutral, discrete, yet slightly contrasting and appealing.
