WINE BARREL ART for ROBERT YOUNG WINERY

Thank you for stopping by.

Here is a pictorial history of creating art for a wine barrel. From concept to final art. You'll note that I started with
the intention to painting a barrel and then decided to create the art by wood-burning into the oak. I had never done wood-burning before so it ended up being an exciting and educational experience. Using a wood-burning iron is a lot
like drawing - with the exception that this utensil is 950º and your hand is driving the nib of the tool into the wood.
So, although it is a lot like drawing, with wood-burning most of your fingers are almost on fire and all of your hand
has a couple dozen newly-used-muscles in constant pain. You are also distracted by burning wood smoke.
It was a marvelous experience.
I think I'll do another one.
After I let my hand rest for a week.

Here's the wine label where I got my inspiration
for this project commissioned by the Robert Young Family.
