CAMOUFLAGE

It’s their fault, after all.
“Melanie dear!”  - Ugh-  “Didn’t I tell you, not those fuchsia ones!”
Blah, blah, blah.
Snide comments, sideways glances, everyone’s talking, even if what comes out - needless to say - doesn’t do anyone any good.  I just want to be left with my things.
For them, there’s no difference between their pasture and yours; there’s no fence in between.  They should mind their own business.  But they never understand.
Then it’s natural that one tries to hide, don’t you think?  They’re so set in their ways that they can’t even talk with you unless they recognize you.  That’s the way it’s done.
Escape, I know, is not a solution, but for God’s sake one just has to survive, and after all, none of the problems I had with them were ever serious enough to really need a solution. Sensible and superior indifference is best, I tell you.
So what’s better than - voila! - a sublime disguise, which I would dare to say, suits me well and that, what’s more, doesn’t leave my aesthetic sense (which as you know, is quite pronounced) unsatisfied.  The more I see myself, the more I like me, and in all these years I should say that even if I didn’t succeed to vanish completely, I would certainly avoid a bunch of nuisance, which counts for something.
I have only one problem:  after all this time I don’t remember which came first, the shoes or the wool.
