M. Butterfly is (2 of 10) part of the Indiana University Theatre Package.
Inspired by Puccini's Madama Butterfly. M. Butterfly's design was inspired by the dark tale of intrigue and deception as French civil servant Rene Gallimard falls for the beautiful Peking Opera singer Song Liling. The dark and grungy texture background depicts the war during that period as well as the war that was fighting inside of Rene's mind/relationship. The treatment in the letter "M" in symbolizes a M[an] piercing a Butterfly once it has been caught, leaving it to perish (-Cio Cio San).
