"A Year of Characters" is a year-long journey through some of the most outstanding icons of world literature, a project designed in collaboration with illustrator and designer Carla Cascales Alimbau.

 

It is an illustrated calendar that consists of twelve unforgettable literary characters such as Moby Dick, Alice in Wonderland, and Don Quixote. Turning the page for each new month reveals a character illustrated by Carla; the character’s initial corresponds to the initial of the month and is given typographic treatment. It is our graphical interpretation of the fantastic worlds of the novels.

 

The initial of each month has a special typographic treatment designed to reflect the personality of the main character or the story. The letters share some basic parameters like the caps height and stroke widths but have distinctive, specific decorative details. For example, the M of March – Moby Dick – evokes the waves of the sea.
