'Expressive Typography' was the first area of graphic design I looked into. The idea of by manipulating its physical shape to give it more meaning was quite fascinating. It not only becomes an abstract image which highly visual but holds meaning to the word that it is representing through its visual shape.  
 
I started out by pulling off random quotes from online and played around by manipulating the size, font and spacing. Below are a few examples:
Since I was working on a personal project which involved getting people to grow beards during November to raise awareness for prostate cancer and getting people to acknowledge various movies out there, I started pulling off famous quotes from their respective movies and playing around with the words and fonts.
Working on paper still has its perks. Here are a few sketches of  famous quotes that I tweaked for a hypothetical movie campaign.
Seeing as this was a hypothetical project that I took up on the side, I tweaked it further more and moved away from what it was supposed to be and came up with a bunch of expressive type with random words that I had asked for from my friends.
