Brief: design the poster, opening titles, and festival swag for REVERSION, an independent feature film from writer-director Mia Trachinger.

Directive: capture the low-fi, sci-fi feel of the film without giving away too much of the plot.

Challenges: Don't show the gun. Typically, if there is a gun in a film, chances are it is on the poster. It's Exciting! People are Shooting at Each Other! It's an Action-Adventure! Yes, there is a gun in this film. But this film is about so many more important themes, it would be a disservice to get people in the theater under false pretenses.

Also we wanted to avoid a Blaxploitation feel, and a gorgeous African American girl with Angela Davis hair AND a gun would push us too far in that direction.
This is a reworking of the poster into postcard form. Featuring a review quote and the Sundance Film Festival laurels.
See what you're up against at Sundance. VISUAL CLUTTER. Let's play find the film poster.
The REVERSION poster stood out on kiosks and in news coverage. The uncluttered design and iconic imagery really helped catch your eye.
Not just a postcard, it's on your badge too.
We made pins of the two main leads using the same hi-con style.
The separate elements of the poster were given to the web designer.
