While searching general keywords related to land and psychology, I stumbled across a specific article describing a feral child. This caught my attention, and after reading through it I decided I wanted to focus on isolation and how it related to land. After researching different information on the social and psychological effects of human isolation, I ended up with a concept that could be interpreted both figuratively and literally. My goal was to illustrate solitude that is forced onto others as well as those who willingly chose it. I used a mixture of traditional, hands-on media and digital manipulation to create these images. The thought that constantly surfaced throughout this process was “how can something that’s supposed to unify us, divide us so much?”. This became my primary research question that drove my work.
