Theme - Stereotypes and how the surroundings intervene with overall perception of a person. Main means of expression - lights and shadows and different kinds of textures. Every texture represents the main characteristics of the stereotype. Don't get me wrong... I do not criticize the people that have a resemblance to these stereotypes. I believe that people should be seen as individuals and not put in a group under some kind of a label.
I hope everybody will recognize the fun part of the project :) most of these stereotypes are very typical for post-soviet states.
I used mixed media – computer printout transferred on latex.
The first stereotype 'men look more handsome as they grow older'. In the picture - an aging man that believes that he still has it going - he is still 'hot' and is rich enough to afford everything.
Second stereotype - 'all women in their forties and older'. In the picture - typical pose of a woman standing on the beach and sunbathing.
Third stereotype - a neighbor that knows everything about you. In the picture - an old woman standing behind an ornamented window, as if she is eavesdropping
The forth - a lazy teenager that has nothing else to do other then count flies on the ceiling. In the picture - a young woman lying on straw.
The fifth - 'all women let themselves go after the wedding'. In the picture - a voluminous woman in a typical cotton dressing gown that many women wear at home.
This is how the works were displayed on the wall
