Novel Hill — Print Inserts

Some illustrative print materials that my good friend Alexis and I cooked up for Novel Hill as a part of their branding relaunch in 2015, all based on the original "camera-book" logo I created for them nearly 3 years ago. Check out their new site to see how we've given the entire brand a facelift!
This insert will be included in the shipped package with a client's wedding album, so the studio owner, Brandon, requested an illustration that would be reminiscent of his logo: whimsical and personal, yet classic. As we considered options, Alexis and I landed on the concept of a bookshelf. Not only could we disguise the Novel Hill logomark as books on the shelf, but inevitably a wedding album becomes a family heirloom that's oftentimes preserved on a shelf or bookcase along with other precious memorabilia: vintage books, cameras, photographs, old trophies, etc. The concept gave us ample room for creativity to imagine and illustrate what a bookcase might look like in a grandfather's study or tucked away in a corner of the living room.
This secondary insert is a reminder that photography is about telling a story from beginning to end; that books are marked by different chapters, yet still written by the same author. Brandon loves continuing to work with his clients for follow-up family sessions, graduations, and the like, so we created a typewriter icon to include on the front of this insert that would illustrate the nature of beginning to write a new life chapter.
