Mixing Black & White without ever getting Grey, was the initial impulse of this project. I was in London at the time and since the weather was, well, grey, and my make-up artist, Linda Ohrstrom, was in Sweden, we all hopped on a plane and went to the beaches around Stockholm. Styling by my beloved and belated Marianne Ghantous RIP.
I wanted to create images around the subject of race and color, making the differences the center of the creative process. Difference as a space for creation, not destruction.
To my surprise one of my models was Sudanese and spoke Arabic, it was very amusing to direct a nude shoot in Arabic.
