Digital christmas greetings

A Norwegian christmas card and a tradition
Digital holiday greetings. This drawing is based on a still image from a movie I’ve watched about a gazillion times. The only day during the year that I watch TV is on christmas eve. And on of the highlights is the old  Czechoslovak/East German movie from 1973 called  Three Nuts for Cinderella, or Tři oříšky pro Popelku. This is a Norwegian christmas tradition. It have been aired every single year since 1975 (although not always on christmas eve). And even though I’m 28 years old, I have more fun with it now than I’ve ever had. It may be because I really enjoy positive traditions (a feast for the reptilian brain). And because of the amazing Norwegian dub. Throughout the whole movie, there is ONE guy who does ALL of the voices. An old Norwegian actor named Knut Risan. This wasn’t even supposed to be the final dub. It was simply a “read through” of the manuscript as a reference for a later dub, and was done in a few hours. Because of this you can hear the actors original voices through the dub. And for some reason  this ended up being the final dub. The result is unintentionally hilarious.

The story itself is based on a fairy tale by Božena Němcová and is a  Böhmian variation over the Cinderella story. Jurášek the horse, Kasperle the dog and a jewlery boxthat is guarded by the owl Rozárka is everything that Cinderella owns now that her father has died. And her evil stepmother has degraded her to a maidservant. One day, the evil stepmother talks the king in to inviting her and her daughter to a big party at his castle. Where she hope to set her daughter up with the prince. And now they need a new dress. So they send the horseman Vincek to town to get fabrics and jewlery. He asks Cinderella if she wants anything from the city, but she only tells him to bring back what falls down on his nose. On his way back, he is spotted by the prince and his silly friends, who once again has ran of from their studies and duties to go hunting and make some random mischief. The prince shoots into a tree above Vincek, and then three nuts fallls down on him. They turn out to be magic, and each one contains something that prove to be very helpfull for Cinderella.

I drew this simply because I love the movie, and it brings me a good feeling. Obviously I borrowed two characters from some of my comics and put them in the main parts from the movie. They are the only ones who can be considered as a couple in my comics. The character on the right, Nagura, is not a guy. Although she might look a bit like one. I’ve said that they are lesbians a few times, but I don’t know if that would be the correct term. Since Osirunet (with the long black hair) is neither a boy or a girl. She isn’t a human. But anyway you look at it, they seem to have a thing for eachother. And after all the stress I’ve put Osirunet through during the years I have drawn her, I thought she deserved to be treated like a spoilt princess for a while. I get a bit carried away sometimes. They sometimes seem just as real as anyone else.
