The Stoop_Network uses circulation as a defining component by merging a stretched circulatory order with programmatic need. The circulatory system acts as a social infrastructure to promote collaboration with a telescopic view that creates a sense of a larger volume in a narrow space. The structure is comprised of four moments that links program with circulation to form a network of “Stoops.” By abstracting the connection of the stoop to the street into the studio. Each individual stoop optimizes the use of the stair as a programmatic zone.
At entry, a dynamic space is created with an intersection of multiple stoops that creates a condition of intersecting views within the neighborhood. A public to private transition is achieved through the use of the Forum_Stoop that creates a private connection to Walnut Street. The second moment becomes the transition to the café. The stair case stems into elevated seating and tables for the community. The Design_Stoop becomes the third moment with its larger stair case that extrudes interactive planes to promote collaborative socialization and a lecture space. The final zone is the Sky_Stoop, where a grand view of the Rittenhouse District and Center City is achieved on the highest Stoop in Philadelphia.
