Heidi Unruh's profile

The Fragile Self

With intent, my photography connects the wandering mind to solid ideas through the study of feminism. Through this willful journey, I've discovered the strength of vulnerability, which has led to the unforeseen notion of intimate human connections in art.

In my photo-shoots, vulnerability means risking emotional exposure as a way to strengthen body and character. What happens when we embrace vulnerability? Can innovation and creativity exist without vulnerability at it's center? To create authentic portraiture, I step into the joy, silliness, shyness, confidence or pain that you're feeling.

During this photographic journey, I've found ever-lasting friendships through partnership with my models. Establishing a safe environment creates high-trust relationships and I strive for this standard with each session. While overtly my work is about feminism, I've discovered covert intimacy.

Inspired by film and alternative process photographers, I'm committed to bringing thoughtful, poetic and timeless monographs into art and life.

I see you as whole.
