Title:
Anamorphosis of a grid II. “Creating” boundaries and experiences.
The subject of my diploma project concerns the creation of a path and experiences network around the shores of Big Prespa lake and specifically in the area of Psarades village.
The area was selected because of its unique location in the borders of three countries [Greece, Albania, FYROM], its natural beauty, its biodiversity richness [NATURA area] and its cultural heritage [Byzantine monuments in the shores of Big Prespa]

Initial was the role of process for my diploma project and not the final synthesis per se. The concern about the process in the generation of the design started since my research master thesis where it was investigated the meaning and the role of grid as a design tool through the analysis of selected examples designed or implemented in the chronological range of 20th and 21st century. Therefore, the aim of the research was to answer questions such as: How can come of a different form of a grid? What are the principles of its design? How could it be decomposed and recomposed through new principles? How could be used the concept of grid nowadays and meet the new design trends? How is the concept of grid influenced and redefined in consideration of the development of digital tools?

Considering these questions and the answers that emerged in the research thesis as a guide, began the design process of my master design thesis where the initial intention was to design a grid, a tool otherwise, that would have universal appliance in my design and would dictate the respective design choices.

The project started with two parallel directions. One was the analysis of the site and the landscape while the other one was the development of a “grid” through a series of experiments and their analysis, which would become the design tool.

Concerning the analysis of the site, it has been mapped in terms of sight, movement and boundaries aimed at a potential narration of it through the proposed paths and ‘moments’ where the visitor will experience the scenery with all his senses and eventually will become part of it.
