Designing Interactive Systems (DIS) 2016 Identity

DIS is a biennial international conference that has established itself as the venue to explore convergent, emergent, and innovative trends and ideas at the intersection of people, design, and technologies.

The overall form of the mark is based on the structure of a human DNA strand or a Double Helix. Taking elements from the easily recognisable USB icon adds a technological element to the mark. The most common use of a USB drive is to share and transport data or information and this also accurately describes the purpose behind an academic conference such as DIS.

These two elements have been stylised to resemble a simplified circuit board which reinforces the technical aesthetic and more abstractly, illustrates the concept of networking — an integral component of any conference.
