Self Portrait & Artist Statement
After years of doing self portraits for a myriad of classes, I decided to get a bit more honest while remaining a sense of traditional portraiture with this piece. I often prefer that people just me based on the merit of my work, so I opted to conceal my face in an effort to show my playful side without actually showing my face.
Hand lettered type was created to work together with style of illustration. I have been practicing traditional comic book lettering, so it seemed only logical to utilize this skill.
Original thumbnail blown up to recreate proper proportions on final piece.
A much creepier runner up. It was abandoned because while it represents some of the views I have on how I want my art and self to be perceived, I don't really count myself among the macabre. In essence, this was a little to dark to be an accurate representation.
