The Loss of Identity

Innocence // The loss of innocence can often be one of the first times we question our identity. No matter the reason, it seems that we find the need to hide our metamorphosis from others, or even ourselves. The use of white throughout the piece, such as the lamb and cranes, represents innocence. Yet, the lamb is a mask, and the cranes are made of paper, showing that innocence is now only a façade. This is reinforced by the tea set, a game where kids play "grown-up'", symbolizing the line between childhood and adulthood.

Status // The loss of status creates a loss of control, sometimes making someone feel like the things that are important to them are drifting away. The newspaper in the basket represents social status, while the framed family portrait represents the role of bread-winner, parent, or provider.

Sanity // The loss of sanity is shown as a graceful submersion into an alternate reality. The subject is practically unaware of the conventional standards of normality, allowing herself to peacefully drift wherever the current takes her.
