The Final Illustration: Alice in the City

The goal of my work is to show the importance of life experiences we get by stepping outside of the comfort zone to develop ourselves by illustrating and engaging the fantasy and the reality. In order to achieve the goal, I chose the story of the Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland (1951), however, Alice goes to the city of London in her dream where she encounters a lot of meaningless and purposeless events as well as wonderland. Things she experiences are not solvable with the lessons she has been taught, so she struggles to figure things out, but this is what she makes herself grow inside.

The changing of the clothes reflects that she feels as of people change what they wear depending on their environment and physiological aspects, which I portray through Delpozo’s F/W 2015 collection that has a lot of elements of fantasy to contemporary wardrobe. The color scheme is the mixture of dark and colorful as she feels frustrated to be in somewhere she does not know, but still excited to find something new.

I engage the fantasy and the reality by illustrating Alice’s body proportioned weirdly, but things around her are illustrated proportional. It describes that she is not from the real world, although she looks for the way to fit in emotionally and physically.

My hope is the artwork to enhance and to inspire people to go outside of their box and explore the world and themselves to grow higher.
